During the Essence Black Women in Hollywood ceremony, the actor made a powerful speech encouraging people to embrace who they are: "Being born gay, Black, and female is not a revolutionary act.

Today when Empire star Jussie Smollett confimed that he is gay on The Ellen Show, he joined a long list of gay Black celebrities who are out of the closet and loving it.
